Preparing for Your Newborn Photography Session with The Wild Dandelion in Warwickshire and The Cotswolds
What to Expect
Welcoming a new baby into the world is one of life’s most beautiful moments. Capturing those early days is something many families treasure forever, as do I! As your newborn photographer in Warwickshire and The Cotswolds, my goal is to make the experience stress-free, gentle, and tailored to your perfect little bundle! I am a mother of two and I know how much love and emotion is swirling around you in the early days after bringing your newborn baby home. I am never going to put you or your baby under pressure.
Here’s a little peek into what you can expect during your newborn photography session with The Wild Dandelion, and how you can help everything run smoothly.
A Calm, Cozy Environment
Newborn photography sessions are carefully designed to be relaxed and absolutely baby-led. I work slowly and calmly, allowing time for feeding, cuddles, and settling. Don’t worry if your baby is fussy — this is absolutely normal, and we take breaks whenever needed so you can feed or cuddle your little bundle. My advice is to feed your baby as much as you can in the hour or so before I arrive so they are relaxed. A warm environment also helps to keep baby calm.
Timing is Everything
Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first two to three weeks after birth, when your baby is still sleepy and curled up. This timing helps us achieve those peaceful, snuggly images everyone loves. If your baby is a little older—don’t worry! We can still create beautiful, timeless portraits. I have an approach that is baby-led and my techniques allow for a longer window so if you need more time before letting people in then this is absolutely fine!
What to HAVE TO HAND (and What Not to Worry About)
There’s no need to buy a wardrobe full of outfits—simple is best. I provide beautifully textured, neutral coloured wraps, blankets, and tasteful props to keep the focus on your baby’s natural beauty. If you have something meaningful you’d like to include (a family heirloom, a special blanket) this is lovely to include. I will send you more detailed information on how to dress so that your pictures look just perfect.
You’re in Safe Hands
Safety is my highest priority. All newborn poses are done with your baby’s comfort in mind, and I don't do any poses that a baby wouldn't naturally lie in. I always take a gentle, patient approach. I use a comfortable and safe cushioned area that can be positioned to use the best light available, all whilst keeping your baby safe and relaxed.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to prepare much — these early days are brief and magical, and your only job during the session is to relax and soak it in. I want you to absorb the love and acknowledge the absolutely incredible thing you have done! I want you to have beautiful pictures and a wonderful experience and to remember how you felt at this magical time.
